Kerrang! front cover analysis using prezi

I have decided to do an analysis of Kerrang! front cover with prezi. Some of the ideas I may use in my own magazine to make it look more professional, as well as appeal to my target market.

Preliminary task photos

I have taken these photos for my preliminary task (School magazine) whilst taken some of the pictures i decided to make changes from the original draft as i thought these would work better in my school magazine. Below are the photos i have taken for the preliminary task.

This is a medium profile shot of a student working. I have chosen to use this photo as it shows the students can access the computers whenever they need to which is something they may not have been aware of before looking at this magazine.

This is a medium shot of some student as working the common room  i thought this type of shot would show that sixth form is like a community, my original idea was just to have one student working, but i felt this shot was better.

I decided to take a picture of the information board in my magazine as students who may not have gone to the school previously can get to know head boy and head girl as well as senior prefects. This also might be something they want to aspire to be in the future. I have not used this in my final magazine as i didn't have enough space to put it in and i thought having pictures of actual students would work better.

This is my medium close up shot, that i had to use in this task. I decided to use a white background so the student was the main focus.

I decided to use the St Mark's sign at the front of school as it identifies St Marks not just the sixth form.

Preliminary Task Contents page draft

Today in media i designed the contents page of my preliminary task. This is just a rough idea of how i want it to look there might need to be changes if pictures don't look as good as i want them to be. i have decided to keep the text in black so that you can see everything around it, i have considered to use a red colour for the background as this is the schools colour and as it is a magazine for the sixth form it needs to be recognisable.

Preliminary task front cover draft

Today in media we made a draft of our front cover. This is a picture of my front cover for the preliminary task. Although some things may need to be changed depending on who i get to be in each picture this is just a rough idea. As i will make the pictures a lot bigger than this there may still be empty spaces when it comes to the editing of the magazine, i will have to decide if this does happen what to put in these places.

Contents page analysis

Today in media we were set the task of analysing a contents page of a music magazine. I had to discuss; composition, image, graphics, text and theme. I also had to discuss why things were put in that particular place.
This is the magazine contents I analysed. One idea that I liked from this contents page is the main image being the front cover, this then gives people the option to pick put what story they want to read as the front cover is what attracts people to a magazine. I have decided to consider using this idea in my own music magazine as I do think it works.
This is the first half of my analysis, some of the things I pointed out included how the house style wasn't really consistent in terms of colour. The front page was mainly orange where as the contents page was mainly pink, this would appeal to the target audience of girls as they don't necessarily like everything to be the same.

This is the second half of my analysis, one of the things i noticed is they used a speech bubble on the contents page. This is a good idea so that they do appeal to their audience as it stands out rather than just stating what the page consists of.

This is the last section of my analysis. I spoke about the Graphics and the Text, one of the things i noticed is that the text for each page is broken down in to sections rather than just going in order it is put into different parts so that the audience can pick out the things that they may want to read. This is good as they are trying to appeal to a young female audience and girls tend to want to read what they found interesting on the front cover rather than reading each article word for word.

Overall I think analysing this music magazine has benefited me as I have decided to take out ideas which i could use in my own music magazine, I also have a more understanding of how i should set out my own magazine to appeal to a specific target audience.

TAPE analysis

Today in media we used a TAPE analysis which stands for
Type - what type of text is it
Audience - who is it produced for
Purpose -why is it produced
Effectiveness - does it work
Through using TAPE I managed to analyse a top of the pops music magazine. From doing this I now see where their are similarity's in texts and why different text is used to appeal to the target audience. I have also had some ideas about my own music magazine whilst analysing this magazine. One of the ideas I may use is the opportunity to win concert tickets as I think this will appeal to the audience as it gets them involved.

Deadlines

The deadlines for each task are;
Preliminary Task - Friday 25th January
Rough draft of music magazine - Friday 15th February
Final draft - Friday 1st March
Evaluation + blogs - Friday 15th March
