Front cover and contents page draft

This is my front cover draft. I decided to call it red as i felt this was quite unique and would appeal to a younger audience. Another name i was thinking of using originally was vintage, but as my magazine is an indie genre this didn't really fit. I also thought of calling it the base, but i felt this could have been misguiding as my magazine is about all types of music rather than just one style. I liked the idea to use a skyline which Kerrang! used, i felt this worked for my magazine as originally i decided to put it underneath the masthead but then i felt like it wouldn't fit in, especially as i didn't know how big my main cover image was going to be, like Kerrang! i also liked the idea of having more than one image on the front cover, this is why i decided to use 5 other medium-close up's on the front cover, as i felt this would attract people to buy the magazine even if they wasn't interested in finding out about new artists. I decided to add another cover story underneath which just had text as i didn't want to many pictures on the front cover. I thought the idea of having 'Win tickets to Rita Ora's UK tour' was good as it is offering my target audience tickets. This would appeal to them as my target market isn't for younger people. With the main cover story i decided to use repetition of 'x1' to attract my audience. I also decided to add another cover story in the top right about a well known artist. This would then interest other people who may not like the other artists as much. I also added an on going cover story with 'Don't miss the latest gig stories' this would then be for people who do buy the magazine every month and do want to hear about the latest gig stories. Like in other music magazines they use odd numbers so that people want to find out what the extra 3 are. This is why i included '63 top tips for festivals this summer' as this issue is for April and Summer is about to begin soon. As my target market are interested in social networking i decided to include a bit about Twitter, as then my target audience would follow on there as well to get the latest news.

This is my contents page draft. I have kept the house style the same as i thought this worked best for my type of magazine being indie. When i analysed the top of the pops magazine i liked the idea of them having a picture of the front cover and telling people what page each article was on, because people are attracted to something on the front cover that is why they buy the magazine in the first place. I decided to include another cover story on the contents page as i felt people who buy the magazine would then be interested in hearing about the latest news. I decided to put all the page numbers down the bottom as i felt sometimes people do it in order of what people like to read such as fashion  or music rather than in number order and i felt this could become confusing for my target audience. I also decided to include social networking sites at the bottom of the contents page as well as my target audience are interested in a wide range of social networking sites so this would appeal to them to find out more information online. Although i haven't made a final decision on what colour i want the background to be i think as i am using blue and red, i may decide to use a blue for the background. I also haven't listed what font styles i will be using yet, but i have decided to use a font that i have already used on the front cover to make my house style consistant.
